Final Video Story!

Draft video blog post:

For my draft video story I decided to show my audience what goes into putting an episode together for The Update. I filmed the footage during our last studio shoot for the season. In the video I begin by providing a short explanation of what The Update is and then go into actually giving visuals of what The Update is as well. The footage shows what the campus studio looks like which a lot of students have probably never seen and I will have audio of what everything  is for and why we set up the studio to get ready to film.

I will add more clips of myself explaining what the images and footage is showing but this week my audio in my laptop is not working properly so when I went to start adding in soundbites and ambient noise there was no way to tell what it sounded like, so  you can see why it lacks audio haha. One thing specifically I would like to do is add intro and outro music to better “fade in” to the content.

I will come up with a script this week because I want the audio to sound more professional and not just like I threw it together. I also will write it so there is a clear beginning and end of a story. I don’t know if I will add transitions in there in between each clip or image since I kind of like it just the way it is.

Working with premiere was easier than I thought and putting together this draft let me play around with the tools and I think my final will look really good because I plan to do more with what premiere offers. Something else I’d like to add is a final clip of what the actual episode turns out to look like.

Final notes:

I feel really good about how my final video turned out. Even though my laptop’s audio was very troublesome and not working I managed to make a pretty decent audio track. I used the same audio that I used for my audio story which I thought was nice because it provided some continuity. I threw in a ton of audio of myself talking about was it is we do for a studio shoot and some more footage and still photos to make the video more interesting. I had some trouble getting my voice to sound even from track to track but I think it sounds good after messing with the audio levels a bunch.

Final Audio Story

About the draft:

I knew I wanted to interview someone from Cable 8, and originally my idea was for it to be someone from my show since this blog is about that, but I ended up interviewing Shelby Wilkins, my roommate and the assistant director for TALK.

I simply asked her what it is like to be an assistant director for Cable 8, and she went into specifics of what she does day-to-day for Talk on shoots and for editing and that sort of thing, which is great but I think I’m going to make the topic more broad for the final. Perhaps get some more raw footage. I also want to add some ambient noise at the beginning and end. I really wanted to get footage from when we had a shoot for my show last week but it slipped my mind.

As far as the editing process, I hate how different my voice sounds so different in the intro/outro clips from the body of the footage. This is because I was somewhere where I had to be quieter and speak directly into the microphone. I actually learned by doing this that I produce and much warmer sound, which I might shoot for in the final.

About the final:

So I re-recorded my voice for the introduction and outro to make sure it matched the rest of my audio better. My roommate was being a little cray so you can kind of hear that but it’s not that noticeable.

I also added music which makes it sound a lot more professional to me. I really enjoyed going through the public domain music for videos and picking one that reflected how I wanted the story to feel, it adds a lot in my opinion so that’s something I’ve earned from this.

here is where I downloaded the music:

Here is my draft audio story…

I really wanted to do more with this but I ran out of time and got super busy since it was the end of the week before spring break, but this is exactly what it says: a draft. I will go further to call it a “rough” draft.

For this music the provided file did not work for me, I have no clue why, but I downloaded a different public domain mp3 file and that worked fine. It is called “Sunshine Special” by Frenchy’s String Band. Here is where I found it: http://funfunfunmedia.com/music/free-music-downloads/public_domain-mp3s/
